I'm just trying to understand why they are empty on the template.

Hi,

The stop buttons were removed from those quadrants because they aren’t accessible from clip grid mode. This is due to the fact that the software needs to store a value for the status of each clip slot and there isn’t enough room to store any more than the current 256 clip slots.

You can load clips onto those slots (or reinstate the stop buttons if you like), but you wouldn’t be able to control them from clip grid mode.
