The Matrix User Note Mode (part of the Matrix General Instrument Mode Pack) allows you to choose the notes each button in a matrix will play, the MIDI channel it will send on and the LED color it will use. This allows for creating all sorts of interesting layouts. One such layout is the Polyplayground layout seen in the Polyplayground apps by Mike Gao. Forum member sft shared a settings file for use in one our other products that many users seemed to enjoy ( here's the thread) and so I've adapted it for use in Matrix User Note Mode. Here's a video of the layout in action. Currently, this has only been adapted for supported controllers that have RGB LEDs. It could possibly be used with supported controllers that don't have RGB LEDs but, of course, the LED coloring wouldn't be the same. If you're using a supported controller that doesn't have RGB LEDs and want to use this layout, let me know and we can discuss how to go about setting it up. Anyhow, in order to use this layout, you'll obviously need Matrix User Note Mode. Then, download the attachment below that applies to the script you're using and place the included settings file in the script's settings folder ( nativeKONTROL/Arsenal/Arsenal_LPP_A for example). Finally, in the script's Settings-Matrix Mode.txt file, you'll need to choose which mode # to use the mode in and specify the mode's name. For example: MODE_3 = user_note polyplayground Settings file for Arsenal_LP2, Arsenal_LPP and Arsenal_PS1: Polyplayground for Arsenal_LP2 LPP and PS1.zip (1.37 KB) Settings file for Arsenal_NIMJ: Polyplayground for Arsenal_NIMJ.zip (1.42 KB) Settings file for Arsenal_PS2: Polyplayground for Arsenal_PS2.zip (1.34 KB)

Is there anyway to adapt this note mode script so that it works with the launch conrol xl?
If purchased, would it be possible for me to look at the uncompiled python code and adapt something that would suit my needs?

No, Arsenal_NLCX (for the Launch Control XL) isn't able to run matrix modes. FWIW, within Arsenal, we define a matrix as being a grid of buttons with 8 columns and at least 4 rows. So the 2 rows of 8 buttons on the Launch Control XL don't meet the criteria needed for a matrix.
On the second question, Arsenal scripts and the modes they can run are customized via simple text files. No programming involved.

I'm not sure what you're asking. In general though, there is no editing of Python files within Arsenal. If you're looking for functionality that Arsenal doesn't offer, you could make a feature request. Or you could forgo Arsenal altogether and write your own MIDI Remote Script.

Okay i got it. I guess i was unsure whether the arsenal installs unzipped .py files or .pyc files. I guess it's the later. What i'm looking for is a way to switch from the aresenal scripts to being able to use my novation launch xl to play midi via an armed track using buttons. I'm pretty sure it will involve coding myself.. i was just hoping that your scripts would be .py so that i could learn a thing or two from them as i am noob

You should be able to do that by using one of the controller's other templates; one that uses different MIDI messages than the MIDI messages used by Arsenal_NLCX.

Ok, I found the Settings Matrix Mode text file. I just purchased the General Instrument Note Mode. Moved the Polyplayground txt file to the Arsenal A folder. What mode can I change to toggle to Polyplayground without losing functionality of the other note modes or features? Also, what exact command do I select to get to the General Instrument Note Mode and others? I've looked at the manual, but this isn't that easy to understand since I've never used it before and it's a lot to take in.

By default, modes 8 - 14 are empty, so you could use any of those without losing anything. On the second question, you use the mode selection buttons for selecting modes. So, for example, if you defined User Note Mode as mode # 9, you'd select that by holding down Shift and pressing Note. The Control Layout section has additional info on these subjects, so I'd recommend giving that a read if you haven't already.

Thank you for that. Unfortunately, my Mac is down and I have to get it repaired. I'll keep you posted once I get it fixed.

The most likely reason would be that you're using an incompatible version of Live. Arsenal_PS2 requires Live 9.7 or later. If that isn't it, please attach your Log.txt file so that I can take a look at what is going on. Also, you'd need to purchase the General Instrument Mode Pack in order to use User Note Mode with Arsenal_PS2. That's available here.

Hey man!
I've purchased both the Matrix Mode & the Arsenal PS2 from your website, but I do not see the install instructions anywhere. I've already ran both the executable files to install and then placed the Polyplayground user text into the settings folder of Arsenal_PS2_A. I've then changed the settings to "MODE_3 = user_note polyplayground", what do I do from here?

Welcome to the forum. As far as install instructions, the user manual included with Arsenal_PS2 includes a Setup section that covers the process. The install info document included with matrix mode installers covers the process for installing them. It sounds like you were able to get everything installed already though, so you should be good there.
As far as what to do next, you'd switch to Arsenal_PS2 functionality by pressing the User button. Then you'd select Matrix Mode 3 by pressing the Add Device button. Also, if you haven't yet, I'd recommend giving the Core Concepts and Control Layout sections of the Arsenal_PS2 user manual a read as there's some important stuff in there that you'll want to be aware of.
